چکیده

We study the temperature ratio of protons and electrons based on statistics of Cluster observations in the Earth’s magnetotail from 2001 to 2004. During these years, from June to November, the Cluster spacecraft visited the plasma sheet at the distance r ∼−19RE. We use proton and electron moments collected in the central region of the plasma sheet (|Z|< 5RE). We find an average ratio of proton and electron temperatures 〈Tp/Te〉≈ 3.5. The dependence of Tp on Te can be approximated by the power-law function: Tp ≈ 11T 0.62 e , where Tp and Te are measured in MK. A previous reported ratio 〈Tp/Te〉 ∼ 7 is limited to small electron temperatures <20 MK. The observations with the high electron temperature correspond to smaller values of the electron density and larger values of the proton and electron bulk velocities. A correlation between Te and curlometer current density is not found.

Density and temperature of energetic electrons in the Earth’s magnetotail derived from high-latitude GPS observations during the declining phase of the solar cycle

Single relativistic-Maxwellian fits are made to high-latitude GPS-satellite observations of energetic electrons for the period January 2006–November 2010; a constellation of 12 GPS space vehicles provides the observations. The derived fit parameters (for energies ∼0.1–1.0 MeV), in combination with field-line mapping on the nightside of the magnetosphere, provide a survey of the energetic electr...

Electron acoustic solitons in the Earth’s magnetotail

Small amplitude electron – acoustic solitons are studied in a magnetized plasma consisting of two types of electrons, namely cold electron beam and background plasma electrons and two temperature ion plasma. The analysis predicts rarefactive solitons. The model may provide a possible explanation for the perpendicular polarization of the low-frequency component of the broadband electrostatic noi...

Oxygen reduction reaction on Pt/C at the presence of super paramagnetic of Fe3O4 nanoparticles for PEMFCs

In this paper the role of super paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPI) on Platinum nanoclusters on activated carbon (Pt/C) for electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction was considered. Four composites of Pt/C and super paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles were prepared with the same total composites weight and different loading of Pt/C (1.2, 0.6, 0.4 and 0.3 mg ). The composite attached ...

Electrochemical Study of Hydrogen Adsorption/Reduction (HAR) Reaction on Graphene Oxide as Electrocatalyst for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells

In the current work, graphene oxide (GO) samples were prepared at room temperature from graphite flakes using a modified Hummer's method to produce metal-free electrocatalysts. The effect of the duration of the oxidation process on the structural, chemical and physical characteristics of the GO samples was evaluated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), ...
